What causes it?

Improper Diet.
Stress due to physical illness, surgery etc or due to environmental factors.
Thyroid diseases.

In men:
Receding hairline.
Baldness created like a horse shoe pattern, leaving the region above the forehead exposed.
Thinning of hair on the scalp.

In women:
Sudden appearance of patches without hair on the scalp.
Thinning of hair, especially at the crown of the head.
Patches of broken hair.
